We are heading to the high-altitude southern part of the Aragats massif to discover the ancient site of Tirinkatar (Karmir Sar) at 2,850 meters. The plateau hosts 12 mysterious vishapakars — dragon stones — featuring ancient carvings of snakes and fish, once used in water and fertility rituals. The hike starts and finishes near Amberd Fortress; you can visit the fortress at the end of the trek if you wish. Route stats: 22 km length, 1,000 m elevation gain/loss.
