LOCO. Cie Tchaïka
TheaterAs part of the THÉÂTRONS International Francophone Performing Arts Festival, Belgian company Cie Tchaïka presents LOCO — an original puppet theatre production inspired by Nikolai Gogol’s Diary of a Madman. Saint Petersburg, 1834. Poprishchin, a modest civil servant, leads a lonely life. He is in love with his superior’s daughter, but this impossible love gradually draws him away from reality. Seeking to escape his everyday existence, he begins to invent a new identity, eventually becoming convinced that he is Ferdinand VIII, King of Spain. In this visual world where movement and poetry merge, the puppet becomes the protagonist’s double, his extension, and refuge, merging with the actors’ bodies before the audience’s eyes.
