Penelope, O, Penelope

In Greek mythology and world culture, the name Penelope is associated with a strong woman and unwavering loyalty. Simon Abkarian’s play offers a new perspective on the story of Odysseus’ wife from Homer’s Odyssey. The heroine, Dinah, has been waiting twenty years for her husband to return from war. Her devotion is to the moral values of her world: family, roots, and the right to remain true to herself. On the opposite side stands Ante, a predator ready to do anything to marry her. Meanwhile, Elias returns from war having embraced pacifism. Following classical rules, all events unfold over a single Saturday as the characters defend their truths and await spiritual resurrection on Sunday.
